SVIMS created its first mushroom calendar in 2005 and since 2008 has published an annual printed calendar. The purpose is to celebrate the joy of mushrooming and inform people about the variety of mushrooms growing on southern Vancouver Island. Calendars go on sale at the annual Mushroom Show in late October or early November.
The calendar provides an opportunity for SVIMS members to get involved by submitting their mushroom related photos and graphic art, and in producing and marketing the calendar. A Selection Panel determines which photographs will be included. No one has more than one photo in the same calendar. So every year fourteen members are featured: 12 months plus the front and back covers.
Do you want to submit your photographs or art work to next year’s calendar? Before taking those great mushroom photos, remember to set your camera to “high resolution”. To maintain the high quality of our calendar, photos should be at least 2000 pixels in width. So as soon as the rains begin, check your resolution so you don’t miss being a featured photographer.
